The much rumored and talked about Samsung Galaxy J4 Core was finally launched officially. With its launch, it becomes the second Samsung smartphone to run on the Android Go OS. So, without further ado, let us take a deeper look at the device and see if it is worth the bucks it is demanding.
- OPERATING SYSTEM
The device is a part of Google’s Android Go programme. Upon release, it will have the Android 8.1 Oreo OS (Go edition). So, the customers are in for a safe and smooth ride. Also, the developers will provide upgrades till Android 10. However, since Samsung Galaxy J4 Core is a part of the Android Go programme, the updates might continue well past the usual 2 versions update tradition.
- RAM
The device has 1 GB RAM inbuilt into it. It seems quite reasonable considering the fact that the device is set to debut in the lower range segment. While completely adequate, it is quite mediocre. A 500 MB extra dollop of RAM would have added that additional charm to it. Plus, with competitors like Xiaomi willing to provide it, it does prove to be a bit of a stumbling block for Samsung.
- MEMORY
Once again, Samsung Galaxy J4 Core hits the mediocre bar. With the 16 GB internal memory, it falls well and truly in with its competitors. What it has to offer puts it on par with the Nokia 2.1. But then again, Samsung has been a leader in the smartphone market for a while now. It should be pushing the limits rather than being content by staying within the confines of its competitors.
- PROCESSING POWER
Sporting an Exynos 7570 SoC quad-core processor, the device once again offers reasonable processing speed and power. However, with just 1 GB RAM, opening more than one moderately memory consuming app would most definitely cause the device to lag and slow down. But then again, it is exactly other devices at the entry-level offer. So it is not something that will be a deal breaker.
- SIZE
Samsung Galaxy J4 Core is said to be of the dimensions 143×72.1×8.9 mm. So, all in all, it will have a nice feel to it. In fact, it does feel a bit reminiscent to the Motorola E4.
- DISPLAY
The device will have a 6 inch TFT display. The display will support a resolution of 720×1480 pixels. The actual display quality including the crispness of the colors and their balance can only be ascertained once the device is released. However, with Samsung’s track record and from what we know so far, the Samsung Galaxy J4 Core will at least have a middling display. Expecting too much would be foolishness. But expecting it to be below the industry standards would be the same as well.
- CAMERAS
The Samsung Galaxy J4 Core will have an 8-megapixel rear camera with a f/2.2 aperture. The front camera will be a 5-megapixel camera with once again a f/2.2 aperture. What will undoubtedly come as a relief for selfie enthusiasts is that the front camera will also have a LED flash to capture low light photographs.
- BATTERY
The Samsung Galaxy J4 Core comes with a reasonable 3300 mAh battery. Under normal use, it will easily give you more than a day’s worth of life. However, when you compare it with the monstrous 4000 mAh battery being offered by the Nokia 2.1 for a similar price, this new smartphone does take a beating.
- OTHER FEATURES
As far as connectivity is concerned, the new Samsung Galaxy J4 Core will be supporting 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/ A-GPS, Micro-USB and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n. The in-built 8 GB memory will also be expandable up to 512 GB. Apart from all this, the Samsung Galaxy J4 Core will also have at least a couple of sensors onboard. Namely, an accelerometer and a proximity sensor.
- PRICE
The price of the new Samsung Galaxy J4 Core is still up in the air. However, that hasn’t stopped the speculations. When you consider that its predecessor, Samsung Galaxy J2 Core, with almost similar specifications was launched at Rs 6190, a similar price range does seem reasonable. Also, with the recently discounted price of the device being Rs 5990, a price of Rs 6999 seems to be the most reasonable. This means that the Samsung Galaxy J4 Core will be in direct competition its main rivals Nokia, Xiaomi etc.
THE COMPETITION
With the Samsung Galaxy J4 Core all set to debut in the 6000 to 7000 segment, it is fair to look at its competition as well. The clear standout in this segment is the Redmi Y2. At just Rs 6499, it offers twice the storage capacity of the Samsung Galaxy J4 Core. Also, it doesn’t stop there. It also offers thrice the RAM at 3 GB of it. So how exactly Samsung is hoping to compete with it is beyond all reason. Also, with Nokia 2.1 blowing it out of the water in terms of battery life, it is hard to find a niche for the Samsung Galaxy J4 Core. Unless of course, Samsung believes that brand faithful will return to it no questions asked. Otherwise, their new offering seems like a dud without even stepping into the market.

FINAL VERDICT
With no release date or price for the new Samsung Galaxy J4 Core set as of yet, all we that we have so far is speculation. However, the speculation isn’t baseless. It is more of an educated guess. So, with that out of the way, here are our final thoughts on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy J4 Core.
As far as all the specifications of the device are considered, it falls perfectly in the middle of the road. Nothing bad but nothing exceptionally good as well. It is a perfectly mediocre device which offers functionality. No exceptional battery life, no exceptional processing power, and no exceptional memory. There are of course so many other better devices out there in the same price bracket. Alleged price bracket.
Because here is the thing. The price of the device is yet to be released. So far, all the results and verdicts are based on the assumption that the device will be in the 6000 to 7000 bracket. However, if by any chance it is in the lower, 5000-6000 brackets, and then the entire analysis changes.
So, with this much about it up in the air, it is only reasonable to go with what the market experts tell us to expect. And they expect the new Samsung Galaxy J4 Core to be in the 6000-7000 brackets. Hence, with this assumption in mind, it would be safe to say that you would do well to look elsewhere. The Xiaomi Redmi Y3 offers much more value for money if you are looking for an entry-level smartphone with raw processing power. If you are someone who prefers a long battery life over everything else, the Nokia 2.1 is waiting for you. The only reason for you to be buying this device if it is in the 6000-7000 price bracket is if you are a brand loyalist. And if you are one, then what are you even reading this for?
