Rules of Cricket

Cricket is played between two teams of eleven players each. One team bats, and the other team bowls and fields. The main goal of the batting team is to score as many runs as possible. The bowling team tries to stop the runs and get the batters out.

The game is played on a large ground with a pitch in the middle. A set of three wooden stumps with two small bails on top is called a wicket. There is one wicket at each end of the pitch.

The bowler throws the ball toward the batter. The batter tries to hit the ball with the bat. After hitting the ball, the two batters can run between the wickets to score runs. If the ball reaches the boundary after touching the ground, the batting team gets four runs. If the ball crosses the boundary without touching the ground, the team gets six runs.

A batter can be out in different ways. Some common ways are bowled, caught, run out, leg before wicket (LBW), and stumped. When ten batters are out, the team’s innings ends.

An over has six legal balls. Different cricket matches have different numbers of overs. The team with more runs at the end of the match wins. If both teams score the same number of runs, the match may end in a tie. Some tournaments use a Super Over to decide the winner.

Umpires make sure that the game follows the rules. They give decisions on outs, no-balls, wides, and other situations. Modern cricket also uses technology like the Decision Review System (DRS) to help make correct decisions.
